Responsibilities & Tasks:

To match the new speed of our quality- and efficiency-driven business in a world of rapid and accelerating changes, our colleagues need to combine stronger functional, technical and leadership competencies to drive performance in an increasingly competitive market. In addition, we need to build up these capabilities at a rapid pace - and the engine that’s going to get us there is the Hapag-Lloyd Academy.

The Director Leadership Development will be a key part of this effort, playing an important role in the design, development, and delivery of a range of training initiatives, involving the creation of content for leadership trainings, cross-functional initiatives as well as other Academy offerings. This individual will work closely with HL Academy’s dean as well as other portfolio owners and Centers of Excellence within the Academy to define and create the outline and content of these programs.

  • Map competencies and training programs in the realm of leadership, identifying key areas for development
  • Define and assess leadership skills together with People and Organizational Development colleagues and other stakeholders at HL to determine strengths and areas for improvement
  • Develop and execute a learning strategy for leadership development, tailored to the specific needs of our organization and its leaders
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders (internal and external; regional and international) to ensure alignment of learning initiatives with organizational goals and objectives
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of leadership development programs, making adjustments as necessary to drive continuous improvement

Profile & Qualifications:

  • 10-15 years of industry expertise, with a proven track record in leadership development or related field
  • Exceptional understanding of skills and capabilities required for effective leadership
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex concepts to diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder management, with the ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Proactive and results-oriented mindset, with a commitment to driving measurable impact through learning and development initiatives
  • Ability to multitask and adjust priorities as appropriate
  • Ability to interact with Leadership in a credible manner
  • Willingness to travel internationally (up to 20-30% max; especially in role out phases)
  • Strong can-do attitude
